Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: Congress allocated $60M to NOAA Fisheries to invest in upgrades identified as tribal priorities for the Columbia River Basin hatcheries that produce Pacific salmon and steelhead through the Mitchell Act program. Oregon hatcheries funded through the Mitchell Act program include Bonneville, Oxbow, Cascade, Clackamas, Sandy, Gnat Creek, Big Creek, and Klaskanine hatcheries.
Most of the facilities are over 70 years of age and require a significant number of upgrades. Via a collaborative process with Columbia River Treaty Tribes, Washington, and federal entities, Oregon's list includes: Cascade Hatchery intake replacement, Clackamas Hatchery pipeline modifications, Bonneville Hatchery Tanner Creek intake safety upgrades, Oxbow Hatchery intake modification of blowout valves and water delivery efficiencies.
