Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: This project directly supports the Inflation Reduction Act Industry Proving Grounds (IPG).
The focus of IPG is on radically improving private sector access to NOAA climate data and information so the NOAA authoritative data can inform decision making.
This Cooperative Institute work focuses on priorities established with industry including continuous engagement, co-development of new products and services, enhancements to existing products and services, improved delivery leveraging cloud technologies, and transformation of data into cloud-ready and AI-ready formats for improved uptake.
A major advance in this project will be the merging of historical and present data with future climate projections in order to advance the use of NOAA data.
Through the project, industries including finance and reinsurance, architecture and engineering, and retail will have additional information to, for example, properly price insurance policies and coverage because of a better understanding of risk, update building codes so buildings will be more safe and energy efficient, and companies will be able to diversify their supply chains based on an improved understanding of risk.
