Overview
Grant Description
This project will remove storm-related construction debris, abandoned and derelict boats, and lost fishing gear) over a four-year project period. The partners anticipate this project will remove 1,320 tons (2,640,000 lbs.) of storm-related construction and dock debris and lost fishing gear. Remove over 200 vessels will be removed, generating an additional 1,040 tons (2,080,000 lbs.) of removed debris, and recycle an estimated 25% of the materials from them.
Prevent and reduce the amount of marine debris that future storms generate through policy and educational work that will improve building standards for waterfront structures (particularly docks). Seek to improve the maintenance and repair of existing structures that are vulnerable to future damage. And spread awareness and stewardship among property owners, property investors, the general public, as well as federal, state and local governmental agencies.
