Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The Gulf of Mexico Alliance will conduct a 4-year project to remove large marine debris items, primarily abandoned and derelict vessels, from coastal and marine habitats across the Gulf of Mexico. This work will be completed through a tiered approach focused on first 96 known derelict vessels in Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama and then newly identified large marine debris items in all five states.
GOMA will partner with the Mississippi State University Coastal and Marine Extension Program and Gulf State natural resource agencies to complete these activities. The removals will benefit NOAA trust resources through active removal of many tons of marine debris, assessment of the environmental impacts pre and post removal, and increased awareness of marine debris impacts.
