Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
NOAA is awarding federal funding in the amount of $3,976,788 to Washington State Department of Transportation under the FY2022 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Coastal Zone Management Habitat Restoration and Conservation Competition.
This award will result in the restoration and protection of Graveyard Spit on the north shore of Willapa Bay, Washington, through the rehabilitation and revegetation of the historic barrier dune. The construction of a nature-based cobble berm (also known as a dynamic revetment) and the protection and restoration of backshore marsh and tidal embayment environments.
This, in turn, will result in less risk to community infrastructure and cultural resources that are threatened by sea level rise and other coastal hazards.
The project is a partnership between the local communities of North Cove, Tokeland, and Pacific County; the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe; the State of Washington; and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
