Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is providing $400,000 in federal funding to the Quileute Indian Tribe through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law over the next two years.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides funding for interstate and intertribal management of ocean and coastal resources and to implement their priority actions, including to enhance associated sharing and integration of federal and non-federal data.
Specifically, the Quileute Indian Tribe will use these funds to partner with the University of Washington, Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) to continue work to address severe shortcomings of real-time ocean observations on the Washington Shelf, in particular with respect to hypoxia monitoring and prediction.
The project will:
1) Re-design, upgrade, and refurbish two existing systems previously built by this partnership,
2) Design, fabricate, and build a third system, and
3) Temporarily deploy the three real-time moorings on the North Washington Shelf.
