Overview
Grant Description
Vdatum is a software tool designed to vertically transform geospatial data among a variety of tidal, orthometric, and ellipsoidal vertical datums - allowing users to convert their data from different horizontal/vertical reference frames into a common and consistent system, thereby enabling the fusion of diverse geospatial data and alignment relative to desired reference levels.
Completion of statewide vdatum is a top priority in the Alaska Coastal Mapping Strategy because it not only enables other mapping activities, but also unlocks the ability to develop tools, services, and capabilities not yet available in Alaska but available to other parts of the United States, such as sea level rise viewers that are critical to informed community planning and development.
Vdatum provides ready access to the relationship between the land and sea, thereby enhancing the accurate collection and use of geospatial data at the coast in applications like flood and sea level inundation mapping, engineering analysis, and environmental modeling.
