Grant Description
Jefferson Parrish will be awarded $4,500,000 to construct one-mile of living shoreline and creating and enhancing up to 70 acres of marsh, tidal creeks, and lagoons in Bucktown, part of the greater New Orleans area, Louisiana.
This project will rebuild the previously existing natural first line of defense against storm surge and rising sea levels and support the restoration of water quality and ecological functions of the Lake Pontchartrain shoreline.
By establishing a living shoreline and reducing erosion of the shore edge, the project will provide for the re-establishment of many of the former shoreline habitats including marsh edge, intertidal shoreline, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), and some intertidal habitats.
