Overview
Grant Description
The Cowlitz Indian Tribe's Cabin and Johnson Creek Restoration Project targets priority one: "projects that address factors limiting the productivity of Pacific Anadromous Salmonids listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), or those populations necessary for the exercise of tribal treaty fishing rights or native subsistence fishing."
The tribe will use grant funds to implement in-stream work at the project site to provide fish passage to upstream habitat and increase the quality and quantity of spawning, rearing, and adult holding habitat on site and in downstream reaches for salmon and steelhead, as recommended in the 2010 Lower Columbia Salmon Recovery and Fish & Wildlife Subbasin Plan (Recovery Plan) and associated habitat strategy maintained by the Lower Columbia Fish Recovery Board.
The tribe also proposes to increase the Natural Resources Department capacity to engage in regional salmon and steelhead recovery planning and coordination, project development.
