Overview
Grant Description
The goal of the project will be met with four major proposed tasks:
1. Develop improved weather forecasting tools and cloud seeding methods by deploying remote weather stations to better improve weather understanding over mountain areas and evaluate the impact of snow whitening through cloud seeding.
2. Develop a more realistic cloud microphysics scheme for use in a regional climate model to better predict how the seeding material released during operational cloud seeding programs interacts with the cloud physics, which affects the trajectory and targeting of seeded snowfall.
3. Improve the simulation of ice clouds in climate models by constraining the cloud physics using a new CALIPSO satellite remote sensing method for retrieving cirrus cloud properties. Use the improved model to estimate the cooling potential of cirrus cloud thinning at the surface.
4. Conduct regional climate modeling simulations to determine the impact of roof and pavement brightening in Las Vegas and Phoenix. Additionally, conduct a...
