Overview

Grant Description
The University of Rhode Island through this funding will establish the Partnership for Research Excellence in Sustainable Seafood (PRESS). The goal of PRESS is to provide a mechanism allowing a nimble and rapid response to critical issues in seafood security through interdisciplinary collaborative research encompassing academic institutions, state, federal and non-governmental agencies, and industry through collaborative translational science for assessment, surveillance, and mitigation of risks to seafood security and extension and training of a diverse workforce able to address issues in seafood security.

Project objectives are to:
1) Identify emerging issues affecting seafood production, with a focus in industry advancement and food security;
2) Develop a research innovation and idea incubator driven by stakeholder input that rapidly responds to emerging issues;
3) Develop and/or enhance workforce training and educational portals; and
4) Provide technology transfer geared for industry.
