Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
This aware is aimed at reducing the impacts of marine debris within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM). The expected outcome of this agreement is the reduction of near-shore and shoreline marine debris within the PMNM, achieved through the strategic removal of marine debris (e.g. derelict fishing gear, abandoned and derelict vessels, and ocean plastics), and associated coordination and capacity building activities related to removal in the region.
NOAA expects that the majority of funding awarded to NFWF through this agreement will support sub-award(s) to qualified entities to implement projects or programs that will coordinate and support efforts to reduce, remove and better understand the sources and impacts of marine debris on PMNM wildlife and habitats. With these funds, NOAA and NFWF will reduce the amount of marine debris to amounts at or below what can be removed by an annual or bi-annual program and to reduce the incidence of entanglement and habitat damage.
