Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
As described in the NOFO report for this funding, we propose a unique partnership between two players actively involved in this problem, Institute of Marine Environmental Technology (IMET) (https://imet.usmd.edu) and Mote Marine Lab (https://mote.org), to establish a US Harmful Algal Bloom Control Incubator (US-HABCI) to advance control technologies with commercial potential and environmental sustainability. Mimicking and building upon what Mote has successfully accomplished to date with the Red Tide Initiative for marine HABs, IMET will establish for freshwater HABs, in close partnership with NOAA under a funding cooperative agreement. Using an Advisory and Review Board, Mote & IMET would utilize existing, and efficiently expand administrative support as needed to achieve these nation-wide goals. The US-HABCI will solicit potential innovative subprojects from the public and private research communities in annual requests to develop control methodologies. The US-HABCI assessment pr
