Grant Description
WDFW will implement provisions of the updated 2019-2028 Pacific Salmon Treaty (PST) and the associated Biological Opinion (NMFS consultation WCR201810660). The activities include: stock and fishery monitoring. Application of coded wire tags (CWT), acoustic tags, and otolith marks, sampling Puget Sound fisheries for CWTS, recovery and decoding of the tags and otoliths, and data entry and analysis for the Coastwide Regional Mark Information System database, which is shared among multiple state, federal, and Canadian fisheries managers. Genetic sampling and analysis for stock differentiation in mixed fisheries, and development of abundance, survival, and productivity estimates.

Technical support for the Pacific Salmon Commission. This includes representation on the Chinook, Coho, Chum and Fraser (Sockeye) Technical Committees. Staff provide modeling and statistical work analyzing fishery-related data to assist the Commission in the management of transboundary fisheries.
