Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The tropical Pacific Islands region, encompassing over 300,000 square miles of land and millions of square miles of ocean, has historically experienced a high burden of climate disasters such as tropical cyclones, drought, wildfire, flooding, and sea level rise, with well-documented impacts on food and water security, human health and safety, infrastructure, ecosystems, and geopolitical stability. Physical, political, and social factors directly contribute to how different island communities and jurisdictions experience, prepare for, and respond to these impacts, and as the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated, compound events have disproportionate effects on populations that have been made more vulnerable to physical and social risks.
Understanding the risks and vulnerabilities of different communities, organizations, and infrastructure across the region is still a critical issue for prioritizing and funding climate adaptation projects, and the impacts of compound and correlate.
