Grant Description
Application purpose: Funding in this project supports the renovation and upgrade of the KCATA bus storage and battery electric vehicle charging facility.

Activities performed: Upgrades and improvements including: (A) removal and replacement of Building 2 built-up roof that has exceeded its useful life; (B) electrical infrastructure upgrades and addition of solar electric roof panels to support increased power for the BEB buses; (C) replacement of select areas of deteriorated concrete floor; (D) replacement of the building's original 45-year old air handling units (AHUs); and (E) installing new fire alarm/CNG/CO detection systems that are beyond their useful life and adding sensors to detect elevated temperatures of lithium-ion batteries in battery electric buses.

Expected outcomes: With the passing of more than four decades of service, capitalized upgrades are necessary to keep the facility safe and fully operational and better incorporate infrastructure for a growing battery electric bus (BEB) fleet.

Intended beneficiaries: Public transportation riders in the KCATA transportation service area.
