Overview
Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide funding for design engineering and construction of a new city-owned park and ride facility located on Broadway Ave North in Rochester MN.
Activities performed: Funds will be used to cover all eligible design engineering and construction expenses for a new park and ride facility which includes a 202-stall parking garage and a 76-stall surface parking lot.
Expected outcomes: The North Broadway Park and Ride facility will add a new park and ride opportunity for residents, workers, and visitors to travel downtown by bus, reducing the number of single or low occupancy vehicle trips into downtown Rochester.
This project aligns with the city’s adopted goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 and 80% reduction by 2050.
Intended beneficiaries: The intended beneficiaries of this project are residents of Rochester, employees who work in downtown Rochester, and visitors.
Increasing transit use in Rochester is a critical strategy for managing downtown traffic.
As the community grows, mode shifts from single-occupancy vehicles to walking, biking, and transit use will be essential to control congestion, meet parking demand, and maintain or improve quality of life.
Subrecipient activities: None.
