Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application Purpose: Purpose: Funds will be used to purchase a total of six light-duty mid-sized buses and charging equipment and related infrastructure and to establish workforce development opportunities. To be utilized by four (4) rural public transit systems in Minnesota and provide training and administrative support.
Activities Performed: Funds will be used to purchase a total of six light-duty mid-sized buses and charging equipment and related infrastructure and to establish workforce development opportunities. Funds will also be used to provide transit partners with necessary technical assistance, administrative assistance, and procurement assistance through all phases of the project.
Expected Outcomes: The transit systems and MNDOT are seeking to address unmet capital needs, which will help improve the overall state of good repair for the state's transit fleet. Additionally, this project will seek to address sustainability goals, specifically greenhouse gas reduction goals established through Minnesota's Next Generation Energy Act of 2007, further defined in MNDOT's statewide multimodal transportation plan, and supported by local and regional plans.
Intended Beneficiaries: The purchase of replacement buses will aid MNDOT in the efforts to reach a state of good repair in order to maintain safe and reliable transit services. The purchase of expansion buses will allow the transit systems to expand their services to a larger number of transit passengers. The purchase of electric buses will reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions, including greenhouse gases and particulates, which will benefit surrounding communities. The workforce development will benefit the industry by expanding the technical capacity to operate and maintain electric buses.
Subrecipient Activities: Transit system staff will work with MNDOT consultants to purchase electric vehicles and associated equipment and infrastructure. They will also participate in the development of workforce development opportunities and training.
