Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: MaineDOT requests $8,299,430 of FFY2021 Section 5311 funding apportioned to the State of Maine.
Activities to be performed:
- $161,525 for MaineDOT's Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP)
- $1,220,686 for intercity bus operating assistance
- $6,917,219 for capital assistance to replace one of Maine's rural ferries
Expected outcomes: Capital funding will replace a diesel ferry with a new diesel/electric hybrid ferry. RTAP funding will enable all rural subrecipients training and technical assistance opportunities. Intercity funding will provide operating assistance to 4 providers, ensuring crucial intercity connections throughout Maine and beyond.

Subrecipient/contractor activities: Training and technical assistance from RTAP funding for subrecipients, operating assistance for intercity contractors. Maine State Ferry Service (MSFS) is a division of MaineDOT, so it is not a subrecipient but will be gaining a new ferry.
Local match will be provided through both local and state sources and is described in the extended budget descriptions for each ALI.
MaineDOT is current with civil rights requirements, milestone progress reports, and financial status reports. Annual certifications and assurances were executed on January 25, 2021. All administrative and statutory requirements have been met.
