Application purpose: The purpose of this award is to request $27,551,211 in funding for discretionary award projects and MPO transfer funds.
Quincy Bus Facility - Carbon Reduction
Funding source - FHWA Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) funds transferred to MBTA (per FFY24-28 TIP) $20,551,211
Newton Commuter Rail Stations Accessibility Improvements
Funding source - 2023 Community Project Funding (CPF) per (FFY24-28 TIP)
Funding will be used for design and engineering costs $7,000,000; Activities performed: This grant includes two projects:
Quincy Bus Garage - Carbon Reduction Funds
Scope of work specifically for carbon reduction language agreed to by MassDOT.
This Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) funding is intended for electric charging infrastructure-related work at the Quincy Bus Garage.
Electric charging infrastructure includes the following:
Pantograph dispensers
Plug-in charger dispensers
Charging cabinets
Charge management system
Unit substations
Duct banks
Conduit
Wires
Cable trays
Switching station
National Grid load request to provide 9MW feeders to the site and any other equipment/materials and installation costs required to support the electric charging of battery electric buses at the Quincy Bus Garage.
Newton Commuter Rail Stations Design
Improvements include two fully accessible high-level side platforms at each station and accessible pathways to each platform from the adjacent sidewalk network and station parking areas.
Funding will be used for design and engineering costs.
Expected outcomes: The projects included in this grant will increase accessibility in Newton stations and allow the MBTA to upgrade the bus service to battery electric.
Intended beneficiaries: Newton commuter rail riders and the residents of Quincy.
