Grant Description
This application is to request Section 5311 (Non-Urbanized Area Formula Grant (CFDA #20.509) funds apportioned to the State of Massachusetts in the amount of $5,392,847. Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) requests $5,392,846 of FFY22 Section 5311-Massachusetts $5,245,256 and Section 5311(b)(3) in the amount of $147,591.

Purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide the State of Massachusetts and its sub-recipients operating assistance Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP) and administration initiatives for the state and its sub-recipients.

Activities to be performed: Funds will be used to cover eligible operating expenses such as driver salaries, fuel items having a useful life of less than one year, and preventive maintenance in order to continue transit operations. Funds will also be used for training, technical assistance, and state administration.

Expected outcomes: Continued safe and effective operating of transit services for rural areas of Massachusetts.

Intended beneficiaries: Massachusetts transit agencies and citizens in the rural and non-urbanized areas of the state.

Subrecipient activities: The following subrecipients will receive operating assistance to maintain services: Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA), Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA), Martha's Vineyard Transit Authority (FTA), Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA), Peter Pan Bus Lines Inc., and Greyhound Lines Inc.
