Overview
Grant Description
The proposed project will include an outdoor classroom area and kitchen, playgrounds, a splash pad, turf, restrooms, edible landscape, and a shaded picnic area. The project site is owned by the City of Henderson.
The Valley View neighborhood is an economically and ethnically diverse, and underrepresented community within the City of Henderson. Whereas the city has a 7.1 percent African American population and 18.9 percent Hispanic population, the Valley View neighborhood is more ethnically diverse, with a 9.7 percent African American population and 29.5 percent Hispanic population.
The City of Henderson has a strategic goal to provide every resident within a 10-minute walk to a park. The Valley View neighborhood has been identified as an area deficient in parks and recreational facilities. The project will help address this absence by providing the community with an accessible park that will provide an enjoyable recreational and educational experience. Additionally, the implementation of Drake Street Park will help advance several City of Henderson plans, including the Drake Street Master Plan, the Henderson Strong Comprehensive Plan, the Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan, and the 10 Minute Walk Campaign.
The Drake Street Park project will have a transformative and revitalizing impact on the Valley View neighborhood by engaging the community with recreational and educational opportunities, thus improving the livelihood and physical well-being in an outdoor setting.
The City of Henderson does not have a negotiated indirect rate.
The Drake Street Park, submitted and approved for Round 18 funding through the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA), will not have overlap of funding from any other federal agencies. The award amount is $3,876,394.00.
