Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application purpose: In an effort to enhance CTAS 103rd Street Garage, the goal is to acquire six battery electric buses (BEBs) along with the necessary charging equipment, infrastructure electrification, and additional project expenses.
This initiative also includes workforce training.
These electric buses will serve as replacements for CTAS's oldest diesel buses, aiming to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in areas that have been plagued by air pollution and other environmental health risks.
Ultimately, this project seeks to enhance public health and overall quality of life in the communities on the South Side of Chicago where these buses will operate.
Activities performed: Funds will purchase six all-electric buses (BEBs), two Heliox Flex depot chargers, and six inverted pantographs.
Expected outcomes: The new BEBs that will deploy from CTAS 103rd St. Garage will yield significant reduction in emissions of local air pollutants, particularly in environmental justice communities around the garage, and reductions in greenhouse gases benefiting air quality and public health both within and beyond CTAS's geographic service area.
Intended beneficiaries: Deploying battery electric buses in place of fossil fuel vehicles will reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions, including greenhouse gases and particulates.
Subrecipient activities: None.
