Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of this grant is to fund the purchase of approximately 6 35 replacement buses and support the design and engineering services needed to install four depot chargers at VRTS Orchard facility and eight on-route chargers at VRTS Main Street Station (MSS).
Activities performed: Purchasing approximately 6 35 replacement buses for zero-emission transit service.
Purchasing and installing four depot chargers at VRTS Orchard facility.
Purchasing and installing eight on-route chargers at VRTS Main Street Station (MSS).
Completing all necessary design engineering and permitting work.
Conducting bidding pre-construction and installation activities.
Providing project management and technical assistance to ensure effective and timely completion of all tasks.
Expected outcomes:
- Increased capacity for zero-emission transit operations through the addition of approximately seven new electric buses.
- Improved infrastructure reliability and efficiency by installing fully operational depot chargers at VRTS Orchard facility and on-route chargers at VRTS Main Street Station (MSS).
- Enhanced service quality and operational resilience reducing downtime and improving schedule adherence.
- Progress toward VRTS sustainability goals by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to cleaner healthier community transportation options.
- A more integrated and scalable charging infrastructure that supports future fleet expansion and long-term transit electrification initiatives.
