Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide partial funding for the purchase of eighty (80) replacement public transit vehicles, six (6) expansion public transit vehicles, development of a skill-based curriculum, project management, and construction/engineering costs of two operations/administration facilities.

Activities performed: Activities to be performed include the purchase of replacement and expansion public transit vehicles, development of a skill-based curriculum, project management, and the construction of public transit operations/administration facilities.

The transit systems included in this application are 10-15 regional transit agency Ames Transit Agency/CYride, City of Cedar Rapids, City of Fort Dodge, City of Iowa City, City of Sioux City, Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Black Hawk County, MIDAS Council of Governments, Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation, Region 12 Council of Governments/WITS, Region Six Planning Commission/PeopleRides, River Bend Transit, Southern Iowa Trolley, Sioux City Transit, Southern Iowa Trolley, and Southwest Iowa Planning Council/Southwest Iowa Transit.

Expected outcomes: Increased passenger capacity, improved service reliability, on-time performance, and safety are strongly influenced by the condition of the capital assets including transit vehicles and operations/administration facilities.

New reliable transit buses are essential for sustaining and increasing transit ridership.

Improving and preventatively maintaining buses so that public transportation systems are in good operating condition and keeping public transportation systems in a state of good repair is essential to sustaining existing transportation services, providing mobility, and supporting livable communities.

Intended beneficiaries: These projects will benefit public transit systems and the associated general public transit riders that utilize the 10-15 regional transit agency Ames Transit Agency/CYride, City of Cedar Rapids, City of Fort Dodge, City of Iowa City, City of Sioux City, Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Black Hawk County, MIDAS Council of Governments, Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation, Region 12 Council of Governments/WITS, Region Six Planning Commission/PeopleRides, River Bend Transit, Southern Iowa Trolley, Sioux City Transit, Southern Iowa Trolley, and Southwest Iowa Planning Council/Southwest Iowa Transit.

Subrecipient activities: Iowa DOT's subrecipients are the beneficiaries of this funding request and will procure replacement and expansion public transit vehicles, develop a skill-based curriculum, and the construction of public transit operations/administration facilities.
