Grant Description
Application Purpose:
This application utilizes the FY 2021 Section 5311 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to help intercity bus agencies to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 emergency situation in the amount of $3,380,439. These funds will be applied toward intercity bus operating costs for Burlington Trailways and Jefferson Lines. This grant is applying for 15% of the ARPA Section 5311 funds reserved for the intercity bus program, amounting to $1,411,716, and for $1,968,723 dedicated 5311(f) funds allocated for intercity bus projects in the FTA ARPA apportionments.

Activities Performed:
Intercity services will be provided to citizens across the state of Iowa. Operating funds will cover expenses for existing service, including the recovery of operational deficits, maintaining intercity bus service, hiring additional staff to clean/sanitize vehicles, and the general operating costs of maintaining transit facilities and fleet.

Expected Outcomes:
The projects will provide intercity bus operating costs to facilitate smooth transportation services to citizens of Iowa. Intercity bus services reduce congestion and provide critical service to transit-dependent populations in rural areas of Iowa.

Intended Beneficiaries:
The beneficiaries are the citizens of Iowa who are able to avail of intercity bus services with stops in rural counties.

Subrecipient Activities:
Subrecipient agencies Burlington Trailways and Jefferson Lines will provide intercity service across Iowa.
