Grant Description
Application Purpose:
This grant application is for $1,380,303 in FFY22 Formula 5310 funding allocated to transit systems in urbanized areas between 50,000 and 199,999 in population, and $1,565,379 for transit systems in areas under 50,000 in population. This totals a federal amount of $2,945,682, with a local share amounting to $718,056, resulting in a total grant application amount of $3,663,738. The purpose of this grant is to fund 5310 eligible projects to provide services to elderly and disabled populations in Iowa.
Activities Performed:
This grant application encompasses the cost of contracted services, purchase of rolling stock equipment, and preventative maintenance (provided in-house).
Expected Outcomes:
Service reliability, on-time performance, and safety are strongly influenced by the condition of the capital assets. New, reliable transit buses are essential for sustaining and increasing transit ridership. Improving and preventatively maintaining buses so that public transportation systems are in good operating condition and keeping public transportation systems in a state of good repair is essential to sustaining existing transportation services, providing mobility, and supporting livable communities. Contracted services will provide reliable and timely paratransit and other services for the elderly and disabled populations.
Intended Beneficiaries:
These projects will benefit seniors and individuals with disabilities in the cities of Ames, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Dubuque, Iowa City, Sioux City, Waterloo, and also the University of Iowa (CAMBUS), along with Region 2 and Region 10, which serve 14 rural areas in Iowa. All these transit systems are public agencies and non-profit.
