Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Application Purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide additional funding for ongoing capital project expenses related to professional services associated with the HART Rail Project. The funding requested in this Capital Investments Grant supplants the local share amount in Grant HI-03-0047-04 Honolulu Rail Transit Project in the amount of $63,750,000.

Activities Performed: Funds will be used to cover work scope activities associated with professional services during construction of the HART Rail Project and seeks reimbursement on non-CIG matching funds for professional services.

Expected Outcomes: Awarded funding will allow HART to cover supported design and construction oversight for the project from East Kapolei to the Civic Center Station in Honolulu, Hawaii. Specific project-wide outcomes include a reduction in congestion through the major transit corridors for daily commuters and visitors to Oahu, Hawaii. The completion of this project will add a significant mode of transit to the island of Oahu that is separated from the current vehicular traffic corridors between Kapolei and downtown Honolulu.

Intended Beneficiaries: Both residents and non-residents of the City and County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii will benefit from this transformational project. Island daily commuters and visitors alike will benefit from having another major mode of transit to choose from. It will also benefit non-rail riders along the rail alignment by reducing single-occupant vehicular traffic along the major traffic corridors, reduce the need for parking at commuter endpoints, reduce overall street congestion, and increase street and pedestrian safety.
