Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Mobile Mental Health Crisis Unit - Mental health is not a crime, and yet nearly 60% of Schaumburg Police emergency calls were to respond to mental health situations. Inadequate funding and availability of mental health and affordable substance abuse services within the community have increased reliance on 911 calls for crisis service and police response to manage complex mental health, substance abuse, and family situations.
The Village of Schaumburg will establish a mobile response unit for substance use and mental health services for face-to-face, immediate, and short-term mental health prevention and treatment referral services for substance use and mental health crises in the community. Staff will be embedded in the community and assist in stabilizing situations where law enforcement is called for assistance.
The project’s goal is to effectively use local resources and increase the community’s access to appropriate and much-needed substance use and mental health services.
