Grant Description
Hopi Tribe-Hopi Wellness Center - The Hopi Wellness Center is a community-based program that focuses on improving the lives of the Hopi/Tewa community members through health & wellness activities and events.
The program targets individuals with or without diabetes and ensures opportunities are available to prevent, control, and delay the development of diabetes and its complications.
The Hopi Wellness Center parents' sub-programs include the Hopi Special Diabetes Program, the Hopi Fitness Center, and the Hopi Veteran’s Memorial Center. The Hopi Veteran’s Memorial Center is a multi-purpose facility used for community and recreational events.
The programs developed provide effective, engaging, and comprehensive intervention strategies to provide the Hopi/Tewa community with a broad, community-based approach delivering diabetes-related education.
Implemented programs focus on reducing obesity, improving nutrition, addressing food insecurity, improving physical activity, and weight management. These efforts aim to strengthen the understanding of behavioral changes to prevent diabetes and its complications.
