Grant Description
Project Title: Assistance in Undertaking a Community Review of Kahramanmaras, Turkiye Earthquake Sequence Investigations
Project Period: 2 1 2024 through 12 31 2024
Award Purpose - To capture and document the major lessons and opportunities for further research identified through the many disparate field investigations following the 2023 Kahramanmaras, Turkiye Earthquake Sequence.
Activities to be performed - A one-year anniversary programming track to gather all US-based post-earthquake investigators will be held as part of the 2024 Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Annual Meeting to be held in Seattle, WA from April 9-12, 2024. The programming will cover a wide range of topics likely to include: structural and geotechnical engineering, seismology, geology, ground motion, lifelines, public health, emergency management and response, school safety, and public policy.
Deliverables and Expected Outcomes - Major lessons and opportunities for further research across a range of disciplines, including topics that are multi- and cross-disciplinary in nature, will be captured in presentation slides and poster files from all presenters in the program track. Presentation and poster files will be posted publicly on the Virtual Earthquake Clearinghouse website for the earthquake hosted by EERI.
Intended Beneficiary(ies) - The programming will benefit scientific and engineering researchers and practitioners, policy makers, and communities located in high seismic regions.
