Grant Description
Under this agreement, USDA/FAS is partnering with CABI to support the development and implementation of risk-based pesticide regulatory systems and maximum residue limit (MRL) policy consistent with international standards (e.g. CODEX) and based on WTO agreements.
CABI will implement activities related to identifying priority MRL-related trade barriers, tolerance setting in African countries, facilitating MRL policy adoption in African countries, and promoting science-based risk communication on MRLs in African countries.
Specific activities and beneficiaries will be determined in coordination with USDA/FAS and relevant stakeholders.
Intended beneficiaries are U.S. specialty crop stakeholders, regulatory officials, farmers, private sector, academia, and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
This is part of the USDA Foreign Agricultural Services initiative: assisting specialty crop exports.

THE USDA FOREIGN AGRICULTURAL SERVICE’S ASSISTING SPECIALTY CROP EXPORTS (ASCE) INITIATIVE GOAL IS TO EXPAND U.S. SPECIALTY CROP EXPORTS BY ADDRESSING NON-TARIFF TRADE BARRIERS. THE GOAL OF THIS NOFO IS TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RISK-BASED PESTICIDE REGULATORY SYSTEMS AND MAXIMUM RESIDUE LIMIT (MRL) POLICY CONSISTENT WITH CODEX ALIMENTARIUS STANDARDS.
