FL-2025-037
Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application purpose: To reach the City of Tallahassee's goal for 100% battery electric bus transportation by 2035, StarMetro must purchase eight BEBs in FY23 and start building phase one of the electric charging infrastructure necessary to support a full BEB fleet.
Operating BEBs since 2012, StarMetro is a statewide pioneer in BEB deployment, bus purchases, infrastructure projects, and route optimization.
If awarded facility funding, StarMetro plans to start phase one of its electric charging infrastructure facility immediately to accommodate additional BEBs as they arrive.
Overnight charging will enable route restructuring with the new emission-free vehicles.
Bus and Bus Facilities funding will also assist in workforce development efforts with local partners as StarMetro continues to focus on training and maintaining BEB mechanics and operators able to serve an entire fleet.
Activities performed: Replacement of 8 internal combustion engine buses with 8 battery electric buses (BEB) as well as completing phase one of StarMetro's bus facility rehabilitation project for overhead charging infrastructure.
Expected outcomes: Replacement of 8 internal combustion engine buses with 8 BEBs and the completion of phase one of StarMetro's overhead charging infrastructure project.
Intended beneficiaries: The electric fleet infrastructure plan will allow StarMetro to construct phase one of the charging infrastructure project needed to convert the entire StarMetro fleet to BEBs.
Additionally, phase one lays the groundwork for solar panel installation in phase three, thus contributing to COT's solar generation.
This supports the COT goal to operate an all-electric bus fleet on renewable energy impacting StarMetro's day-to-day operation.
Subrecipient activities: None.
