FL-2025-030
Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application purpose: This grant will subsidize the procurement of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to replace longstanding diesel buses that have exceeded their useful life of 500,000 miles and/or twelve (12) years improving the overall fleet reliability and the costs associated to the pre and post Buy America audits and inspections.
Activities performed: Award funds will be used for the procurement of thirty (30) Gillig 40 CNG buses through the state contract as well as the cost of pre and post Buy America audits and corresponding inspections to ensure compliance with federal regulations and maintaining high standards for each bus.
Expected outcomes: Replacing older diesel buses on routes throughout Central Florida will help LYNX's effort to transition its entire fleet to a combination of low and zero-emission vehicles as well as providing more efficient and reliable service to its riders.
Furthermore, LYNX is investing in cleaner technology to decrease emissions and greenhouse gases which will translate into better air quality and improved public health.
Intended beneficiaries: LYNX is a vital transportation resource for the residents, businesses, and visitors of Central Florida.
Serving a population of 2.3 million in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties as well as the city of Orlando and 22 incorporated cities, LYNX ensures urban connectivity for a diverse range of communities including towns and municipalities that depend on its services for daily mobility.
The system supports millions of annual visitors, facilitating access to key destinations and contributing to the region's economic activity.
Through its network of interconnected routes including local bus service, FASTLINK express service, and the LYMMO downtown circulator, LYNX enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors alike providing 19,354,976 passenger trips in FY2024.
Subrecipient activities: Not applicable. No subrecipient activities will be funded through this grant.
