TECHNOLOGIES THAT ALLOW FOR THE CONTROL AND MANIPULATION OF PHOTONS AND ATOMS HAVE MATURED TO THE POINT THAT SUCH SYSTEMS CAN BE ENGINEERED TO EMULATE - AND THEREFORE HELP TO UNDERSTAND - NATURAL PHENOMENA THAT GO BEYOND CONVENTIONAL PHOTONIC AND ATOMIC PHYSICS.
