Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This grant provides crucial funding in support of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources work on the research and management of invasive carp in Kentucky.
Specifically, this grant supports staff, equipment, and associated costs for two work units: one stationed in Frankfort, KY, and one based out of Murray, KY.
Staff in Frankfort focus their efforts on the Ohio River and its tributaries, with part of the funding also supporting contract fishing efforts focused on the Ohio River leading edge of the invasive carp movement.
Staff in Murray, KY, focus their efforts on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, two of the most important recreational reservoirs in the state.
Some funding for this work supports KDFWRS subsidy program, where KDFWR pays ten cents per lb. subsidy to licensed commercial fishermen who harvest invasive carp from Kentucky and Barkley Lakes.
Additionally, KDFWR plans to expand the experimental gears and methods program to improve on the techniques for catching invasive carp.
