Overview
Grant Description
The Watershed Institute (TWI) is going to implement a large-scale, multifaceted, restoration project that converts 27,000 sq ft of impervious parking lot into multiple types of pervious surfaces,
2,000 sq ft of the parking lot-adjacent turf areas into bioretention features,
install green infrastructure to manage the runoff from the 14,160 sq ft exit driveway to their facility,
and install the monitoring equipment necessary to study the project's impact and efficacy.
The overall purpose of the project is to 1) improve habitat and water quality of the Stony Brook watershed through reduction of stormwater and non-point source pollution,
and 2) to achieve these improvements by designing best management practices with the intent that they will act as demonstration and research tools for TWI and its partners to use in public and professional educational opportunities.
