Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish Wildlife Service, will support a large-scale nativeseed collection effort in 2024 and beyond. The overarching objective of this project four-fold: 1) native seedcollection 2) native seed cleaning and storage 3) native seed production, and 4) creation of a native seedequipment network.
GBI s contribution to the overarching project will primarily be the native seed collectioneffort. More specifically, GBI will recruit to hire up to 9 Seeds of Success (SOS) native seed teams (18technicians with 2 technicians per team) per year to conduct seed collecting throughout the Great Basin. Thiscollection work is essential to maintain irreplaceable genetic resources, as the fire-invasion cycleprogressively reduces native plant abundance, including the entire loss of native plant populations in somelocations.
These seed collection efforts ensure that we collect these resources before they are lost. GBI hassubmitted a project budget for this multi-year effort of 1,418,616.00.
