Overview
Grant Description
In partnership with Columbia Land Trust, Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requests $6,601,123 from the Section 6 HCP Land Acquisition Program to permanently protect 1,410 acres containing active and intact habitat for three federally threatened species - Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina), Gray Wolf (Canis lupus), and Bull Trout (Salvelinus confluentus) - and two additional federal at-risk species: Columbia Oregonian (Cryptomastix hendersoni), and Wolverine (Gulo gulo luscus).
Located along the southeast edge of Washington's Cascade Mountain Range and south of the Yakama Indian Reservation (Map 1 Project Overview Map), the target parcels protect diverse habitat including mature Douglas-fir dominated forests, Oregon white oak woodlands, and vernal seeps and springs. The project site provides connectivity with 6,200 acres of Washington state-owned forest land managed under the Washington State Lands HCP and benefiting the listed and at-risk species.
Federal funds will be matched at 26% with non-federal funds by the applicants.
