Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
In partnership with Columbia Land Trust, the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is requesting $4,541,832 from the Section 6 HCP Land Acquisition Program. This funding will be used to permanently protect the first 926 acres (Phase 1) of a 2,476 acre project area. The project area contains high functioning, occupied habitat for two federally threatened species: the Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) (NSO) and the Oregon Spotted Frog (Rana pretiosa) (OSF), as well as five additional federal at-risk species.
The Phase 1 parcels are located along the southeast edge of Washington's Cascade Mountain Range (see Map 1 - Context Map). These parcels protect diverse habitat, including mature mixed conifer forests, freshwater wetlands, 1.15 miles of anadromous streams, and vernal seeps and springs. The listed and at-risk species that will benefit from the proposed acquisition are covered by the Central Cascades HCP (Plum Creek 1996).
