Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
This study will gather information about the numbers and genetic and demographic trends of Sierra Nevada red fox in its Sonora Pass core area and in areas peripheral to the Sonora Pass core area, including the El Dorado and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forests.

The known population of the fox is small, occurs at high elevation, and is difficult to detect. Funds would be used to implement non-invasive genetic surveys and DNA analysis methods to track known individuals and add new individuals when possible.

Surveys began in 2010 and have been conducted annually through 2022. This task continues those surveys.
