Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
Federal funding will be used to support ongoing non-native invasive plant control at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Integrated pest management techniques will be used to reduce populations of invasive plants. Invasive plants negatively impact the ability of the refuge's interior to perform its intended functions of water storage and flood control.
Reducing invasive plant populations will improve the ability of the area to store water for human and agricultural uses, manage storm flows to prevent flooding, reduce saltwater intrusion into the aquifer, and support the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. This project will enhance habitat for the endangered snail kite and numerous threatened and state-listed species.
Fish and Wildlife Service funds are to be spent solely on contractual services for invasive plant management.
