Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Created by Congress in 1984, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) serves as the official foundation for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). NFWF is pleased to continue our partnership with FWS to support the NFWF-USFWS Conservation Partnership in fiscal year 2022 (FY 2022).
FWS funds in the amount of $6,841,311 are requested by NFWF, which will be matched at a minimum of 1:1 with non-federal cash and in-kind contributions. These funds will support conservation programs that meet the mutual missions to further the conservation and management of fish, wildlife, plants, and other natural resources (P.L. 98-244). It is important to note that all of the funding is directed to on-the-ground conservation, and no funds are used to support NFWF's administrative costs.
NFWF is the nation's largest private conservation grant maker, supporting more than 20,400 projects in all 50 states and generating a total conservation impact of more than $7.4 billion. As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, NFWF is led by a board of directors approved by the Secretary of the Interior.
The FY 2022 FWS funds received through this partnership will support conservation programs, and NFWF will engage FWS in the grant selection process for all applicable programs. However, final award decisions are made at the discretion of the NFWF board of directors and are subject to a mandatory 30-day congressional notification period for awards over $10,000 in federal funds.
