Grant Description
The purpose of this project is to support an elephant conservation effort in Benin and Mozambique by strengthening the implementation of a robust ivory stockpile management system.
Benin and Mozambique are home to approximately 2,984 and 10,884 elephants respectively.
This project is intended to conserve African forest and savanna elephants and their habitat by addressing the impacts of poaching and ivory trafficking.
Specific activities include:
(1) Training government officials on the use of the stockpile management system (SMS);
(2) Developing standard operating procedures and inventory of wildlife products in target storerooms;
(3) Conducting follow-up technical support and mentoring to ensure continued use of SMS in 12 African countries; and
(4) Conducting a physical audit of an ivory stockpile in Uganda.
