Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Ocean Tech Works, led by the University of Rhode Island Research Foundation and Polaris MEP, will support workforce development in ocean robotics, sensors, and materials industries in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts to meet the demands of ocean-based technology companies and their extensive supply chains within the region.
The project will develop and implement industry-driven training programs in advanced manufacturing, with a particular focus on advanced materials and robotics.
Together with 46 members, including state agencies, higher education, and labor organizations, the sectoral partnership will tailor workforce programs to equip individuals with the necessary skills and support growth in CNC machinists and programmers, machine maintenance technicians, TIG welders, robotics technicians, and composite technicians.
The project will support people from a distressed area/population.
The project will support the Ocean Tech Hub, which EDA designated a tech hub in 2023.
The tech hub seeks to develop, test, and commercialize emerging maritime artificial intelligence / machine learning-enabled robotics and sensors.
