Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Focused on advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing (APM) and the biotechnology sector (BIOTECH) that fuels it is a rapidly growing industry in Richmond and Petersburg.

The Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA), a joint program with J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (JSRCC) and Brightpoint Community College (BCC), and industry partners including Civica, Phlow, DCLS, and Haleon aims to place 228 people into good paying technical level APM/BIOTECH jobs in Richmond and Petersburg while creating a scalable, robust workforce system for good jobs.

The project will do this by 1) establishing a workforce sectoral partnership intermediary through leadership/planning activities, 2) maximize partner effectiveness by delivering labor market intelligence (LMI), 3) providing ongoing recruitment of and engagement with individuals from distressed communities, and 4) providing comprehensive APM education, training, and work-based learning for these populations through two associate, one career studies and three non-credit credential-bearing training programs as well as on-the-job training and internships.

The project supports national priorities to reshore manufacturers, build a robust U.S. based pharmaceutical supply chain, and resolve the country's drug shortage crisis by growing the APM workforce capabilities across two severely distressed cities.

The project aims to serve individuals from distressed communities.

The project will support these individuals with a wide range of wraparound support services including tuition assistance, childcare, housing, and transportation, and a flexible mobile lab.
