Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This EDA investment will construct a new wastewater collection and treatment system in Cooke City, adjacent to Yellowstone National Park in Montana, a remote area impacted by recent natural disasters.
Cooke City Sewer District is addressing the local need for wastewater management with this project, which will replace a failing drainfield system.
The new system will result in transformative economic and environmental impacts for the small community and dozens of businesses that serve hundreds of thousands of tourists each year.
Tourism revenue decreased significantly during 2022 flooding.
The system will give the community the certainty for established businesses to stay open, offer tourists more amenities, and retain jobs while positioning Cooke City to have adequate wastewater management for future growth and resilience to future natural disasters.
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Northern Rocky Mountain Economic Development District (NRMEDD).
EDA funds NRMEDD to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
