Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The EDA investment supports Kansas State University, in partnership with the Kansas Forest Service, to advance resiliency in the state's agricultural industry by constructing a facility that expands workforce development opportunities for natural resource and wildfire risk management and creates dozens of job-ready graduates every year.

The facility will include a modernized fire equipment shop; an emergency response training and agricultural technology and mechanics teaching lab; and a multipurpose classroom for teaching and workforce training.

It leverages public and private sector relationships across the state to place individuals in skilled occupations such as fire safety, arboriculture, wildlife biology and more.

The project will support the growth of natural resource management businesses, enhance the state's disaster preparedness, and foster long-term economic development, particularly in underserved areas.

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Northwest Planning and Development Commission in concert with other economic development districts in the state of Kansas: North Central Regional Planning Commission, South Central Kansas Economic District, Flint Hills Regional Council, Great Plains Development, Inc., Mo-Kan Regional Council, and Mid-America Regional Council.

EDA funds these organizations to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
