Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other EV Materials Loop Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (NEVADA TECHNOLOGY HUB) will launch a governance and workforce development component project to coordinate stakeholders across the state of Nevada, foster collaboration, and develop, enhance, and support a skilled workforce that can meet the industry's demands.
Activities to be performed:
Governance
1) Provide leadership and a structured governance process to effectively convene and coordinate Nevada's lithium material stakeholders to manage the projects including data collection, analysis and reporting, communications, and risk mitigation.
Workforce development
1) Assist consortium members in meeting their workforce needs by listening to and working with employers and industry to ensure staffing and workforce needs are addressed.
2) Ensure personnel across workforce entities have adequate staff and access to professional development so they can better inform job seekers about newly created job pathways and skill-building opportunities.
3) Provide workforce training to individuals across the geography of the Nevada Tech Hub as needed to help meet lithium-loop industry needs, with the training programs resulting in job placements and career pathways (upskilling, certificates, and connections to higher education).
4) Facilitating career education in high schools and supporting training and adult basic education and English as a second language (ABE/ESL) programs across Nevada's three community colleges.
Supply chain analysis
1) Collect information from industry within the Nevada Tech Hub region about their suppliers and customers to improve the supply chain and improve efficiency, reduce timeframes, and reduce risk.
Expected outcomes: Create workforce training, educational opportunities, and career pathways associated with performance tracking. Evaluate the current and future labor force, which will help policymakers, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and the regional development authorities when working to attract targeted companies to locate to Nevada.
Intended beneficiaries: Nevada Tech Hub workforce development will provide students and other populations with essential training and knowledge about the lithium industry while simultaneously developing a robust network of employers and renowned organizations to partner with.
Subrecipient activities:
1) Work with entities around Nevada to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to addressing workforce development needs. Support the placement of new trainees in new jobs, close income gaps, and ensure Nevadans have access to job opportunities created across Nevada's lithium economy, which encompasses critical mineral extraction and processing and the manufacturing and recycling of lithium batteries and other EV components.
2) Leverage existing apprentice training programs from actual workplace experiences for use in the Nevada Tech Hub workforce development.
3) Provide internship opportunities for high school and postsecondary students.
