Grant Description
The Reinvest Birmingham Recompete Plan, led by the City of Birmingham, will support the persistently distressed neighborhoods of North Birmingham, Northside, Pratt, and Smithfield.
Northwest Birmingham has experienced significant challenges in workforce participation and prime-age employment.
This project will establish 158 new seats at Center of Excellence, expand technical assistance for licensing, support program for childcare workers, and stand up funding models to make childcare more affordable.
Key partners include the Alabama Women's Foundation and the YMCA.

PHASE 1 OF THE COMPETITION IDENTIFIED FINALISTS THAT MADE A CLEAR CASE FOR THE NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF THEIR CHOSEN GEOGRAPHY AND SUCCESSFULLY ARTICULATED A PLAN TO ADDRESS THOSE NEEDS. PHASE 2 OF THE COMPETITION WILL MAKE IMPLEMENTATION AWARDS BASED ON THE LIKELIHOOD OF AN APPLICANT TO RAISE PRIME-AGE EMPLOYMENT AND WAGES, AND PROMOTE LONG-TERM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
